A fun and spooky Halloween storytime session in French for children at the Institut français d'Écosse, part of its Kids & Families programme.
Institut français d'Écosse is hosting a Halloween storytime session in French on Saturday 31 October, starting at 10.30. It's a morning slot, so it's one of those things you can do with the kids before the rest of the day's Halloween plans kick in. The session is part of the centre's Kids & Families programme and sits within its 2026 Children's Book Festival, which is built around books, imagination, linguistic diversity and creativity.
If you're not familiar with the place, the Institut français d'Écosse is a cultural centre promoting French language and culture in Edinburgh and across Scotland, and it's part of the wider Institut Français network worldwide. Every room in the building bears the name of a remarkable figure, and the centre has been fostering cross-cultural exchange since 1946. This year it's celebrating its 80th anniversary with a week of special events highlighting its role in bringing France and Scotland closer.

Beyond the kids' stuff, the venue runs French courses, talks, live music and theatre, film screenings, and a library, alongside its festivals. The storytime session is just one part of that wider mix, so if you're already heading in for the Halloween special, it's worth keeping the rest of their programme on your radar. The session starts at 10.30 on Saturday 31 October at the Institut français d'Écosse, West Parliament Square, Edinburgh Old Town EH1 1RF.
