Free pop-up shop of handmade art and design by the makers who work in the Out of the Blue Drill Hall studios in Leith.
Makers Amok takes over the Out of the Blue Drill Hall from 2 to 6 November, a pop-up shop that puts the work of the Drill Hall's own resident makers on display. It's a simple premise: everything you see in the shop was handmade right there in the building. The artists and makers who work in the studios at the Drill Hall come together as a collective to run the whole thing, so you're buying directly from the people whose studios are just a few doors down.
What you'll find covers a fair bit of ground. There's jewellery and artwork, textiles and original design, and since it's a collective, the range depends on who's involved this time around. The full list of names is announced on the Drill Hall's social media, so if you want to see who's taking part before you head in, that's where to look. It's aimed at art lovers, trade professionals, collectors and exhibition enthusiasts, but it's just as easy to wander through if you're just curious about what's being made in the building.
The venue itself is part of Out of the Blue, an independent cultural social enterprise and one of Scotland's leading community, cultural and arts development organisations. Their mission is to give artists and others who face barriers to creativity a place to meet, work, participate, learn and develop skills, and then pass them on to the local community. The trust also runs The Bongo Club and Out of the Blue Productions, so the Drill Hall is just one part of a wider creative hub in Leith.
