Family workshop led by artist Tessa Asquith-Lamb and storyteller Anne Hunter to make shadow puppets and retell a winter tale with woodland animals.
Festive Shadow Puppets and Stories runs at the National Library of Scotland on Saturday 5 December, from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm. It's a family workshop, so it's one to bring the kids along to on a Saturday morning. The session is led by artist Tessa Asquith-Lamb and storyteller Anne Hunter, and it's built around a wintertime tale.
That's the starting point: families settle in to hear a cosy winter story, and then they get to make their own shadow puppet characters. Once the puppets are ready, the group retells the story together, with a cast of woodland animals and magical beings taking the lead. It's a hands-on morning, so you'll be making as much as you're listening.
The two leading it bring different backgrounds to the table. Tessa Asquith-Lamb is an artist and freelance art educator based in East Lothian; she studied Fine Art at Edinburgh College of Art and has exhibited her work throughout the UK. Anne Hunter is a storyteller, artist and musician who tells traditional tales and myths from Scotland and around the world, drawing on her background as an artist and art therapist and her use of music and song. Between them, they've got the storytelling and the making covered.
