Free launch party for the Fair Saturday storytelling festival with live shanty music from The Salty Scrimshaws and storyteller Niall Moorjani.
The Salty Scrimshaws and storyteller Niall Moorjani open Fair Saturday 2026 at the Scottish Storytelling Centre on Monday 2 November, from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. The party kicks off Fair Saturday, a storytelling festival supported by the City of Edinburgh Council.
The Scrimshaws are a duo fronted by Joss Cameron, who goes by the name Scotland's Shanty Queen, and first mate Amy Dudley. They weave maritime tales and melodies that celebrate Scotland's coastal waters, so the set will lean into the sea-faring side of the night. Sharing the bill is Niall Moorjani, a Scottish-Indian writer and storyteller based here in Edinburgh who writes for both children and adults. His work centres on hope, joy and kindness, and he's performed at festivals around the world, including the Edinburgh Fringe, the Scottish International Storytelling Festival, the Kathakar International Storytelling Festival in Delhi and Brighton Fringe.
There's a bit of a spread to go with the stories: haggis, neeps and tatties and soft drinks are provided, and the Haggis Box Café will be open for bar service throughout. The venue itself is a hub for storytelling, live music and traditional arts, with talks, workshops, theatre and ceilidh, as well as BSL interpretation and sessions for families and Deaf participants.
