A playful dance performance for children aged 2 and over exploring fear, friendship and courage through movement and imagination.
La compagnie Les DĂ©s rangĂ©s bring Couette-Couette to the Institut français d'Ăcosse on Saturday 17 October, a dance performance for children aged two and over and their families. It's a morning show, starting at 11:00, so it fits into a Saturday without taking up the whole day.
The title translates to Duvet-Duvet, and the duvet is exactly where the story begins. One character is tucked beneath hers, reluctant to come out and play, while another arrives with her cuddly toy, Le Loup â a well-known figure in French children's literature â to invite her into a world of adventure. From there, the duvets themselves become the set: they transform into a play area, a den, clouds, monsters and magical landscapes. It's built around movement, imagination and a bit of gentle humour, and it looks at fear, friendship and the courage to try something new.
The company behind it is La compagnie Les Dés rangés, a professional contemporary dance company based in the Monségur area of South West France. They describe themselves as a laboratory for contemporary dance that mixes dance, theatre and music with education programmes and grassroots cultural experiences. Couette-Couette sits on the dance side of that mix, though the way the duvets shift into different things suggests the theatrical side is just as present.
