Husband-and-wife duo The War and Treaty bring their blend of Southern soul, gospel, country and rock-and-roll to the Bluebird Theater.
The War and Treaty play the Bluebird Theater on Thursday, November 5, starting at 8 PM. They're touring their album Healing Tide, a blend of Southern soul and transcendent vocals that pulls from gospel, country, and rock-and-roll. The duo is Michael Trotter Jr. and Tanya Blount-Trotter, a husband and wife from Albion, Michigan, who formed in 2014. Their live show is often described as nearly revival-like in intensity, and they perform with a raw vulnerability that lets the audience see them as imperfect, exposed people.
The two come from very different paths. Michael is a wounded warrior who found his voice while serving in Iraq, where he was pulled from the front lines to write songs for the fallen. Tanya is a lifelong artist drawn to singing's power to take another's pain away. Together they've opened for Al Green and toured with Brandi Carlile and Jason Isbell. Their accolades include recognition from the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Grand Ole Opry, the Americana Music Association's 2022 Duo/Group of the Year, Emmy Awards, and 2024 GRAMMY nominations for Best New Artist and Best American Roots Song.

Healing Tide sits right in the middle of that Southern soul sound they've built, and the Bluebird is a good fit for it. The show starts at 8 PM on Thursday, November 5, at the Bluebird Theater, 3317 E Colfax Ave.
