A vintage swing dance night featuring Lindy Hop classes and a social dance jam session with DJs spinning hot vintage tracks.
Swing Nights brings the Lindy Jam to Cervantes' Masterpiece Ballroom on Tuesday, October 13, from 6 PM to midnight. It's a full evening of Lindy Hop, a vintage swing dance that started in Harlem alongside the jazz of the 1930s and '40s, and the jam has become a regular part of Denver's social dance scene. The night is set up as a gateway: a beginner lesson at 6 PM, an intermediate class at 7 PM, and a social dance from 8 PM to midnight, with DJs spinning hot vintage tracks. If you've never danced swing, you can start with the beginner class and stay for the dance; if you've got some steps, the intermediate hour is there to sharpen them before the floor opens up.
The October instructors are Cyle Dixon and Bethany Alvarez, and DJs Jonathan Dyer and Mitch Kampmann will be on the decks for the social dance. The jam is also part of Swing Nights' progressive Lindy Hop series running through October, and the series is currently taking the show on the road to venues like Cervantes' Other Side while the Mercury Cafe is closed. That means this particular night is one stop in a larger run of classes, so if you're looking to build on what you learn, there's more coming.

On the practical side, classes and the dance are sold separately. A drop-in class is $15, or you can take both for $20. If you attend a class, you get $3 off the social dance. The whole thing runs from 6 PM to midnight at Cervantes' Masterpiece Ballroom, 2637 Welton St, Denver, CO 80205.
