Demo artist Shannon Miguela demonstrates her process live in the Cosmic Studio as part of the weekly Studio Saturdays series.
Shannon Miguela is the demo artist at the Denver Art Museum on Saturday, October 17, from 12 PM to 3 PM. It's part of the museum's Studio Saturdays series, which runs every Saturday in the Cosmic Studio on level 1 of the Hamilton Building. This is the fourth and final session of the current run, which kicked off on September 26 and continued through October 3 and 10.
During the demo, Miguela works live in the studio, giving you a look at how she builds her paintings from the ground up. The whole point of Studio Saturdays is to pull back the curtain on the creative process and let you connect with local artists while they're actually working. It's a good way to see the steps that usually happen behind closed doors.
Miguela works in acrylics, and her paintings lean into the surreal subconscious. She describes her work as bridging visual poetry, the divine feminine, and yoga philosophy, and she talks about it in terms of contemplation and a felt connection to the unseen. If you're into art that pulls from those kinds of spiritual and philosophical places, her process should be right up your alley.

As for the space, the Cosmic Studio is the museum's dedicated artmaking area on level 1 of the Hamilton Building. It's designed to draw inspiration from artists across time and space and invites visitors to experience the future of art through three hands-on activities: paint, weave, and dream. The studio is sponsored by the Robert and Judi Newman Family Foundation.
Miguela's demo runs from 12 PM to 3 PM on Saturday, October 17, and it's included in general admission.
