A five-piece band from Charleston, South Carolina, blends blues, pop and indie rock with electronic beats and soulful vocals.
Stop Light Observations play the Marquis Theater on Wednesday, October 28, at 7 PM. They're a five-piece coming in from Charleston, South Carolina, and the night is built around their own set.
If you haven't come across them before, the sound is a bit of a hybrid. They pull from blues, pop, and indie rock, and they layer electronic beats underneath it all. The vocals are handled by frontman Will Blackburn, who brings a soulful quality to the mix. It's the kind of thing that sits somewhere between a traditional band setup and something more produced, with the electronic side pulling it away from a standard guitar-and-drums feel.
On stage, the lineup is Will Blackburn on vocals, Oleg Terentiev on drums, David Beam on guitar, and Jeremiah King on keys. That's four of the five members accounted for, with the electronic elements filling in the rest. It's a full band on the bill, so you'll hear the keys and the guitar working together around Blackburn's voice.
