Final weekend of a two-week cooperative gallery show by Stephen Shugart and Mark Brasuell.
Stephen Shugart and Mark Brasuell are showing together at EDGE Gallery through Sunday, October 18, the final weekend of a two-week run. It's a cooperative show, with both artists bringing their own distinct bodies of work into the same room. Shugart's half is titled Fragile States, and Brasuell's is PANK.
Fragile States is a new exhibition of abstract sculpture and painting. Shugart works with found and industrial materials, colored light, and AI-generated video, stretching tissue paper over wire armatures to create fragile, skin-like membranes. The work continues his investigation of the tensions between nature, society, and technology, and between organic and geometric form. One piece, Elegy for the Last Ballerina (The Last Ballerina Not Yet Replaced), pairs an aspen-root sculpture of a ballerina with an AI video created with Deevid.ai.
PANK is a bright, layered body of unapologetically physical oil paintings. The title comes from Brasuell's playful Southern reworking of the word "pink" and from the idea of reaching the pinnacle of something—ideas he's been developing for many years.
