Three-day Jewish music retreat led by Joey Weisenberg, founder of Rising Song, to turn ancient prayers into songs through musical meditation.
Joey Weisenberg leads a three-day Jewish music retreat, Song Is Prayer, at the Hebrew Educational Alliance in Denver from Sunday, November 8, through Tuesday, November 10. It's not a single concert, but a full retreat that runs across those three days.
Weisenberg is a musician and community builder, and he's the founder of Rising Song. He describes the retreat as an invitation to "jump into harmony and deep musical meditation," and the focus is on how ancient prayers become vibrant songs. The idea is that you'll walk away with a different way of listening and singing. If you've ever wondered how a prayer transforms into something you can actually sing along with, that's exactly what this is built around.
It's part of the Hebrew Educational Alliance's fall music programming here in Denver. The HEA Music Director, Eitan Kantor, describes Denver as "an emerging epicenter of Jewish musical innovation," and this retreat fits right into that. It's less about sitting and listening and more about getting in on the music yourself, with the harmony and the meditation as the main things you'll be doing over the course of the three days.
