Concert by the French trio Slift, blending space rock, stoner metal and krautrock, at The Bluebird Theater.
Slift play the Bluebird Theater on Friday, October 16, at 7:30 PM. The French trio is touring their album Fantasia, and the set is built around it.
They're from Toulouse, and their sound pulls from a few different places: space rock, stoner metal, stoner rock, and krautrock. If you're not familiar with those labels, it's a good shorthand for where they sit. The stoner side brings the heavy, low-end riffs and the slower, locked-in grooves; the space rock and krautrock side adds the longer, more atmospheric stretches and the repetitive, hypnotic rhythms that can stretch out for a while. It's the kind of music that works as much when it's leaning into the loud as when it's letting a single line run.
Fantasia is the record they're playing, and it's a trio effort—three people on stage, no one else on the bill. The set will draw from the new material, and since they're touring it, the songs from the album will be the focus of the night.
