The original Sex Pistols members perform live with Frank Carter as the new frontman in a punk rock revival.
The Sex Pistols are back at The Ogden Theatre on Friday, October 9, with original members Steve Jones on guitar, Paul Cook on drums, and Glen Matlock on bass, fronted by singer Frank Carter. It's a lineup that brings together three of the men who helped detonate British punk, playing under the name that started it all.
The reunion didn't happen in a boardroom. It grew out of three concerts at Bush Hall in London, put on to raise funds for the venue when it was under threat. Carter ended up in the mix after a stranger approached him on the streets of Shepherd's Bush; he grew up listening to Never Mind The Bollocks, and Glen Matlock's youngest son, Louis Matlock of Dead!, recommended him for the role. Since then, the group has taken the show on the road across Australia, New Zealand, Japan, the US, mainland Europe, and the UK, including a headlining slot at a Teenage Cancer Trust concert at the Royal Albert Hall.
Carter isn't a newcomer to the scene. He released the pummelling Grey Britain in 2009 with Gallows, and he's spoken about taking the energy of the Pistols' 1977 album into his own performance. That's the record that defines the band's sound—the one Carter grew up on—and it's the same energy he's bringing to the stage here in Denver.
