A live shadowcast performance of The Rocky Horror Picture Show by Colorado's Elusive Ingredient, an immersive audience participation show.
Colorado's Elusive Ingredient brings The Rocky Horror Picture Show to the SIE FilmCenter on Colfax in Denver on Sunday, October 25. It's an early show, so you're not staying up until the early hours of the morning for this one.
If you've never been to a shadowcast, here's the deal: the movie plays on the screen, and a live cast performs right in front of it, in sync with the film. It turns a screening into a piece of audience participation where people dress up, shout callbacks, and throw props. Newcomers are called 'Virgins'โthey get a lipstick V marked on their forehead and an invitation up on stage, with a strong emphasis on consent and the right to opt out if you're not feeling it.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show itself is a 1975 late-night cult classic, rated R for adult content, themes, and brief nudity, and it's the longest-running release in film history. Colorado's Elusive Ingredient has been Denver's premier shadowcast since 2000. They're award-winning and hold a world record for selling 8,081 tickets to a single showing, and they've sold out venues like Red Rocks, the Boulder Theater, and the PACE Center. They also stage The Room, the 'so bad it's good' film written, starring, and directed by Tommy Wiseau.
