Concert by the post-punk and shoegaze project Prewn, led by Izzy Hagerup, presenting her album System at Globe Hall.
Prewn plays Globe Hall on Wednesday, October 21, at 8 PM. The show is built around System, the new album from the project.
Prewn is the work of musician Izzy Hagerup, who came up through Philadelphia's independent music scene. The sound sits at the intersection of post-punk intensity and atmospheric shoegaze, pulling in noise, drone, and dream pop. The guitar stays at the center of it all: unconventional tunings, a heavy run of effects pedals, and a range that goes from hushed, reverberating textures to searing, distorted walls of sound. Hagerup's vocals are often layered and ethereal, floating over the top. The rhythm section is usually a rotating cast of collaborators, providing a fluid and sometimes improvisational foundation.
Live, the band sticks to intimate clubs and mid-sized venues with minimal stage production and atmospheric lighting. Sets typically run about 60 to 75 minutes, and they often stretch further through extended improvisation. The sound draws comparisons to My Bloody Valentine, Grouper, and Sonic Youth.
