Ne Obliviscaris performs at The Fillmore Auditorium with support from Periphery, Greyhaven and Ando San.
Ne Obliviscaris play the Fillmore Auditorium on Monday, November 2, with Periphery, Greyhaven and Ando San opening. It's a full bill, so you'll want to get there early if you're planning to catch the openers before the headliner takes the stage.
If you're not familiar with them, Ne Obliviscaris is a five-piece from Melbourne, Australia, that's been around since 2003. They hit the live scene in February 2006 and have built their name on a sound that's hard to pin down to one genre. The lineup includes a violin alongside two guitars, bass and drums, and they alternate between clean and extreme vocals. Their compositions often run over ten minutes, and the music swings from the highly technical and complex to the simple and subtle.
That range comes from a wide set of influences: progressive, black, thrash, death and melodic metal sit alongside western art music, jazz and flamenco. It's a lot to fit into one set, and the violin is a key part of the mix rather than just an ornament. The show is open to all ages, so it's a good one to bring a younger friend along to if they're into this kind of music.
