Electric violinist Mia Asano performs her unique blend of classical, rock and video-game-inspired music at the historic Oriental Theater.
Mia Asano plays the Oriental Theater on Friday, October 16, with special guests joining her on the bill. It's a homecoming of sorts: Asano is a Denver native, and she's back in the city after building her career in Los Angeles.
She's an electric violinist who blends classical training with alternative music. She first caught on as a viral social media musician while at Berklee College of Music, where she double-majored in Violin Performance and Professional Music. Since then, she's put in a lot of miles, playing five tours in a single year. Her videos have racked up more than 40 million views, which led to collaborations with artists like Sabaton, Ministry, Dragonforce, and Lindsey Stirling. She also went on a European arena tour with 2 Steps From Hell that kicked off at the Wacken festival in Germany, where she performed before 65,000 people.
Her style pulls from a few different places: Celtic fiddle, Japanese traditional music, rock, and video-game-inspired sounds, all held together by technical skill and stage presence. The set pairs spirited renditions of popular themes with her own original pieces, like "Maple Syrup."
