Special Meet the Collection program with guest Paul Shamon of the Rose Monument Foundation, presenting rare artifacts and photographs from the General Maurice Rose collection.
History Colorado is bringing Major General Maurice Rose back into the spotlight on Tuesday, April 14, from 2 to 3 PM at the History Colorado Center, 1200 N Broadway. It's part of their Meet the Collection program, the kind of session where they pull specific items out of the archives and let someone who knows them inside out walk you through why they matter.
Rose is a Denver story. He grew up here as the son of a rabbi and worked his way up the ranks to command the 3rd Armored Division during the Second World War. He died in 1945 as the highest-ranking American officer killed by enemy fire, so there's a heavy weight to the history here. The session is less about a lecture and more about the things he left behind: rare artifacts and photographs from the General Maurice Rose collection, some of which have never been seen before.
Paul Shamon, of the Rose Monument Foundation, is the guest speaker. He'll be the one bringing the story to life, using those objects and photos to put a face and a life to the name. If you've ever wondered what actually makes up a military collection—the personal items, the records, the snapshots—this is a good chance to see it laid out rather than just reading about it in a book.

It's free for members or included with general admission to the museum, so if you're already a member, you're set. Otherwise, it's just the cost of a day ticket. The session runs from 2 to 3 PM on Tuesday, April 14, at the History Colorado Center.
