Progressive metal band Mastodon headlines The Poisonous Weapons Tour, joined by blackgaze pioneers Deafheaven and Alcest at the Fillmore Auditorium.
Mastodon bring their tour to the Fillmore Auditorium on Wednesday, October 14, as part of The Poisonous Weapons Tour running across the country this fall. The Atlanta progressive metal outfit is the headliner, and they're bringing two opening acts with them: blackgaze pioneers Deafheaven and Alcest. Both add their own brand of atmospheric intensity to the bill, so the night starts well before Mastodon takes the stage.
Mastodon is known for complex compositions and a sludge-influenced sound, and they've built a Grammy Award-winning catalog over the years. That includes songs like "Blood and Thunder," "The Motherload," and "Sultan's Curse," alongside their most recent album, Hushed and Grim, which came out in 2021. Between the older material and the newer stuff, there's a fair amount of ground they can cover in a single set.
On the supporting end, Deafheaven and Alcest both work with the atmospheric, wall-of-sound approach that defines blackgaze—blending the harshness of black metal with more melodic, expansive textures. Having them both on the same bill gives the night a consistent thread before Mastodon closes it out.
