Concert by Lesser Care, a band that fuses shoegaze, post-punk and metal, at Hi-Dive in Denver.
Lesser Care play Hi-Dive on Friday, October 23, with the show starting at 8 PM. It's a single-bill night, so they're the only act on the bill.
If you're not familiar with them, Lesser Care formed in El Paso, Texas, back in 2019, started by Andres Chavez and Zane Pacillas. They've spent the years since then working a sound that doesn't fit neatly into one bucket. They describe themselves as existing between worlds: too heavy to be confined by shoegaze tradition, too atmospheric to be boxed in as post-punk, and too textured to sit comfortably within metal. It's a description that tells you exactly where they land—right in the middle of those three, carving out a space where they all converge.
That mix is what defines them. Shoegaze brings the wall of sound and the wash of effects; post-punk adds the driving, angular energy; and metal provides the weight and the grit. Instead of picking one and leaning on it, they pull from all three at once. If you've spent time with any of those styles, you'll recognize the threads, but you won't find them working in isolation here.
