Jazz 404 Spotlight Series: Kat Ellis

Kat Ellis headlines the Jazz 404 Spotlight Series at Bar 404 on Wednesday, October 14, with Gabe Mervine on trumpet. It's the October installment of the series, which Bar 404 organizes as a monthly spotlight on a single artist. Ellis is the focus here, and Mervine is the featured guest.

On stage, Ellis is backed by a full ensemble: Eric Gunnison, Brad Goode, Eric Simon, and Harold Summey. With Mervine on trumpet, that makes five musicians supporting her, so it's a full band rather than a small combo. The series puts the spotlight on one name, but the night is built around the group.

Ellis is described as a rising star whose electric performances bring soulful melodies and fiery rhythms. That's the sound they're framing her around — soulful on one end, fiery on the other. The trumpet adds another layer to that, and with five more players behind her, there's plenty of room for the arrangements to open up.

The show runs from 7 PM to 9 PM, with doors opening at 6:30 PM. It's an all-ages evening, so it's open to anyone who wants to come. Tickets are available through Eventbrite, and there are no refunds.
