Southern Cheyenne and Arapaho musicians perform the drum piece 'Only the Earth Endures: Cheyenne Chief White Antelope's Song' in honour of Indigenous Peoples Day.
Southern Cheyenne and Arapaho musicians are performing at the Newman Center for the Performing Arts on Tuesday, October 13, as part of an Indigenous Peoples Day celebration. The performance is titled Only the Earth Endures: Cheyenne Chief White Antelope's Song, a drum performance by musicians visiting the Lamont School of Music & Theatre in honor of the day.
The lineup brings together four musicians: Creg Hart, Kendall Kauley, Amick Birdshead, and George Levi. The whole evening centers on that one piece, Only the Earth Endures: Cheyenne Chief White Antelope's Song, so you'll get to hear it in full rather than as part of a larger variety show. It's a drum performance, and the title gives you a good sense of what it's aboutāa song tied to Cheyenne Chief White Antelope.
The show is presented by the Lamont School of Music & Theatre, which brings its students, faculty, and guest artists to the stages of the Newman Center. The center is one of the city's larger campus arts venues, and throughout the season it hosts around 300 concerts and events across orchestras, choirs, jazz ensembles, world music, and operas. This particular performance falls under that world music umbrella, with the Southern Cheyenne and Arapaho musicians coming in as guests.
