World premiere theatrical work blending circus, dance and live music, part of the Neustadt JAAMM Festival.
Hypnagogia makes its world premiere at the Elaine Wolf Theatre this weekend, running Friday, October 9, Saturday, October 10, and Sunday, October 11. It's a circus adventure written by Colorado playwright Cassidy Bacon, and it's part of the Neustadt JAAMM Festival.
The story follows Sylvia, who discovers she's pregnant and finds herself haunted by demons that thrive in the hypnagogic state—that hazy space between sleeping and waking. As she traces the curse back to Lilith, the banished first wife of Adam, the play draws on multicultural folklore, the legends of Lilith, and Bacon's own family history to tell a story about inheritance, identity, and hope. It's told through circus and dance, with a brand-new score by David Rynhart and Cassidy Bacon played live during the performance.
If you can't make it to the theater, there's a recorded virtual performance available to watch at home from October 30 to November 15.
