A community reading and walk featuring live readings by the authors of The Globeville StoryWalk, a writing and art installation by Sidewalk Poets.
Sidewalk Poets are hosting a community reading and walk through Argo Park on Saturday, October 17, from 11 AM to 1 PM. The walk itself kicks off at 11:30 AM, and the main draw is that the authors of The Globeville StoryWalk will be there reading their work live as you move through the neighborhood.
If you haven't seen it yet, The Globeville StoryWalk is a writing and art installation that's been popping up across the area. It grew out of creative writing workshops Sidewalk Poets held with Globeville residents over the past year, and now those poems and stories are on signs and electrical box wraps on street corners and in parks throughout the neighborhood. Local artist Levi Garcia provided the graphics. The walk is a casual two-mile loop through Argo Park and along the 46th Street planter boxes, and it's open to wheelchairs, walkers, and strollers.
Sidewalk Poets is a Denver nonprofit founded by writers and educators Abby Templeton Greene and Courtney Morgan. They started back in 2008 as an after-school poetry club for fifth graders at Coliseum Street School in South Central Los Angeles and officially relaunched in 2022. Since then, they've worked with communities navigating incarceration, recovery, displacement, poverty, and trauma through workshops, public art, and retreats. The Globeville StoryWalk is their most ambitious project to date, supported by a P.S. You Are Here grant.
