Mexico City krautrock band Diles Que No Me Maten perform their album Escrito en Agua at Hi-Dive, with support from Sunswept and Ardo.
Diles Que No Me Maten play Hi-Dive on Friday, October 30, with Sunswept and Ardo opening. The Mexico City five-piece are touring their album Escrito en Agua, and the set is built around it.
They describe themselves as orchestrators of the city's streets and structures, working on a first-thought, best-thought basis with a jam-based approach. The sound pulls from krautrock, art rock, bluesy balladry, improvisation, and poetic mysticism, and the genres they touch range from psychedelic and experimental to post-punk. It's a wide net, and the jammy way they work through it means the songs can go in a few different directions.
This isn't their first outing. They recorded their first two albums, Edificio (2020) and La Vida De Alguien Más (2022), at the anti-studio Progreso Nacional, played Festival Hipnosis 2021, and toured much of Mexico. Their 2023 album Obrigaggi was recorded in a house in Xalapa and produced and engineered by Mateo Sanchez Galán; they presented it at the Pitchfork Music Festival México alongside King Krule, Protomartyr, and Corridor. Escrito en Agua is their latest, and the Denver show is one of the dates they're playing around it.
