Benefit evening with a monologue by Motus Theater about cancer survivors, live art by Mr. Mizu, and a closing acoustic set by Andrew McMahon.
Andrew McMahon is closing out the Dear Jack Foundation's 10th Annual VIP Night at Ophelia's Electric Soapbox on Thursday, November 12. It's a milestone for the foundation, which supports adolescents and young adults facing cancer, and the night is built around that mission. The evening runs from 5 PM to 10 PM.
The main event is a woven monologue titled Reclaiming the Narrative, created in partnership with Motus Theater. It's based on the stories of six AYA cancer survivors, so the voices on stage come from people who've lived through exactly what the foundation works to support. While that's happening, local artist Mr. Mizu will be creating live art throughout the night, and his piece was auctioned off during the event. The whole thing closes with an acoustic set by Andrew McMahon, the musician and founder of the foundation.
If you're not familiar with the foundation, it focuses on adolescents and young adults—the AYA population—who are navigating cancer. This being the 10th annual VIP Night, the evening marks a decade of that work, and the monologue brings the personal side of it to the front, drawing on the lived experiences of six survivors rather than just talking about the cause in the abstract. The acoustic set from McMahon caps it off, with the foundation's founder taking the stage himself.
