A high-energy tribute act merging the music of The Grateful Dead and Pink Floyd, with a 21+ age restriction.
Dead Floyd are playing Ophelia's Electric Soapbox on Friday, October 23, and Saturday, October 24. The two-night run puts them in the same room twice in one weekend, so if you can't make one night, you've got another shot the next day.
If you've never heard of them, the name tells you exactly what they do: they merge the music of the Grateful Dead and Pink Floyd into a single show. They pull from both bands' catalogues, from early rarities to the better-known songs, and the set changes from night to night, so the two dates won't be the same. It's a high-energy, unpredictable way to hear two very different legacies on one stage.
They're a Colorado band, formed in Fort Collins in the summer of 2009. Since then, they've played more than 1,000 shows across the country, including dates at the Fox Theater, Aggie Theatre, Boulder Theater, and Mishawaka Amphitheatre. At Mishawaka, they're consistently voted one of the top tribute acts in Colorado. The current lineup draws on the members' roots in jazz, funk, and rock, which explains how they bridge the gap between the Dead's jam-band sprawl and Floyd's atmospheric builds.
