Experimental hip-hop band dälek perform their album 'Brilliance of a Falling Moon' at Hi-Dive, a 21+ event.
dälek play Hi-Dive on Thursday, November 5, with Moon Pussy and Shocker Mom opening. The set is built around Brilliance of a Falling Moon, the new full-length that MC dälek (Will Brooks) and Mike Mare conceived, composed, and produced at Deadverse Studios over 2024 and 2025. The title comes from a section of Erik Larson's 2011 novel In The Garden of Beasts, and the record runs on brutal, dust-caked drum breaks and politically charged lyrics.
If you're coming to them late, dälek are experimental hip-hop legends from Union City, New Jersey, founded by Brooks and Alap Momin (Oktopus). They debuted in 1998 with Negro Necro Nekros and spent the next decade building a reputation for fusing hardcore hip-hop with noise and a radical approach to sound. That sound came through a string of watershed albums: 2002's From Filthy Tongue of Gods and Griots, 2005's Absence, 2007's Abandoned Language, and 2009's Gutter Tactics. Throughout those records, they worked in the tradition of revolutionary hip-hop pioneered by Public Enemy and The Bomb Squad, pushing the music toward something heavier and more abrasive than the mainstream.
