Jazz concert featuring Brian Blade and The Fellowship Band at Dazzle Denver.
Brian Blade brings Dazzle Denver to the stage on Tuesday, November 24, 2026, at 9 PM. He's playing with The Fellowship Band, which for this date means Blade on drums and Jon Cowherd on saxophone. It's a duo set, so the whole night rests on those two.
Blade is an American jazz drummer and composer born in 1970 in Shreveport, Louisiana. He didn't start on drums, though—he played violin in his school orchestra from age nine to thirteen. After that, he followed his older brother, Brady L. Blade Jr., who played drums in the Zion church. Both studied under Dorsey Summerfield Jr. and performed with his group, the Polyphonics, where Blade spent his early years listening to John Coltrane, Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Art Blakey, Thelonious Monk, Elvin Jones, and Joni Mitchell.
In 1988, Blade moved to New Orleans to attend Loyola University, and that's where he met Jon Cowherd. The roots of The Fellowship Band took shape there, and the two began recording as The Fellowship in 1998. Since then, they've released seven albums, from FELLOWSHIP in 1998 to KINGS HIGHWAY in 2023. Outside of the band, Blade has worked as a sideman with Brad Mehldau, Joshua Redman, and Kenny Garrett, and he's a member of Wayne Shorter's quartet.
