An art exhibition exploring remembrance, identity, love and renewal through the lens of Día de los Muertos, presented by the Chicano Humanities & Arts Council.
Blooming Through the Spirit of Cempasúchil is open now at the CHAC Gallery & Cultural Center in the Santa Fe Arts District, and it'll be there through November 15. It's a Día de los Muertos exhibition, and the title points right to the center of it: the cempasúchil, or marigold. In Mexican tradition, the flower's bright color and scent are said to guide spirits back home each Día de los Muertos, acting as a bridge between the living and the dead.
Curator Sonia Del Real builds the show around that idea. She frames death not as an ending, but as a continuation held within cycles of memory, color, and return—an invitation to sit with grief and joy at the same time. The exhibition brings together work by CHAC artists and community artists across many mediums, and the pieces circle back to remembrance, identity, love, and renewal.
There's some good history behind the people putting this on. The show is presented by the Chicano Humanities & Arts Council, which has spent more than 50 years helping nurture and establish Día de los Muertos traditions here in Denver. Its Gallery & Cultural Center was founded in 1978 by a group of visual and performing artists as a venue to explore and preserve Chicano/Latino culture. This exhibition is part of CHAC's 2026 Exhibition Season, a year-long celebration of Chicana/o/x, Latina/o/x, and other multicultural and multiracial art.
