Blackbraid, an Indigenous Black Metal solo project, performs live at HQ in Denver as part of their North American tour with Cradle of Filth.
Blackbraid plays HQ on Wednesday, October 28, as part of a North American tour with Cradle of Filth, presented by Anchors Aweigh. It's a solo project run by Sgah'gahsowáh, an Indigenous Black Metal act hailing from the Adirondack Wilderness.
If you're coming to this one without knowing the catalog, there's plenty to catch up on. Blackbraid has put out a trilogy of full-length albums—Blackbraid I, Blackbraid II, and Blackbraid III—along with an EP, Nocturnal Womb. The project sits in the black metal tradition, but the Adirondack roots and Sgah'gahsowáh's Indigenous background give it a specific identity that sets it apart from the usual European-derived sound.
Sgah'gahsowáh doesn't stop at the main project, either. He also runs Petrichor, which he describes as the raw black metal side project—the stripped-back, unvarnished counterpart to the more developed Blackbraid records. Between the trilogy and the EP, there's a fair amount of ground to cover, and the Denver date is one stop on a tour that takes the project across North America.
