A ballet show reimagining Sleeping Beauty with classical dance and glow-in-the-dark costumes that respond to movement, creating an immersive visual experience.
Ballet of Lights brings Sleeping Beauty to The Elaine Wolf Theatre on Saturday, November 22, at 6 PM. It's a reimagining of the fairy tale we all know, presented by Cleo Parker Robinson Dance, and it does something pretty different from a traditional ballet.
The whole thing is built around glowing fiber-optic costumes that respond to the dancers' movements, turning the stage into a living canvas of light. The story follows the familiar arc—from the princess's enchanted sleep to the true love's kiss—carried by a soundtrack of works from some of the greatest classical composers. It blends classical ballet with modern light design, and those glowing costumes add a layer to the narrative that makes the familiar story feel both delicate and dynamic.
It's a relatively short production, running about 60 minutes, so it doesn't overstay its welcome. The show is recommended for ages 5 and up, and children under 16 need to be accompanied by an adult. If you're the type who likes to document the night, photography without flash is welcome.
