Concert by Alysha Brilla, a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter known for weaving global roots sounds into her music.
Alysha Brilla plays Dazzle on Sunday, October 11, with vocals and acoustic guitar. She's a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who weaves global roots sounds into her music, and this is a solo set—just her voice and her guitar.
Brilla's background helps explain that global lean. She's the child of an Indo-Tanzanian musician, and that influence runs through her work. She taught herself guitar at 13, later joined a world fusion band in Toronto, and has since released four critically acclaimed albums. In 2013, she became one of the first self-produced female artists to receive a Juno nomination for her debut, In My Head, and she's been nominated three times in total. Along the way, she picked up a Music Producer Of The Year award at the IMAs and a giant Dundas Square billboard feature with Spotify.
Her career has taken her well beyond the studio. She's performed at the House of Blues in Los Angeles, the Montreal International Jazz Festival, WOMAD Chile, and Sauti Za Busara in Tanzania, and she's toured widely across Australia. Her latest single, "Love," was mastered by three-time Grammy winner Emily Lazar. Beyond the stage, she's also worked in film; in 2023, she composed the score for the feature The Queen Of My Dreams. She's collaborated with The Black Eyed Peas, No Doubt's Tony Kanal, and Danny Kortchmar.
