A live rock concert featuring Acid Mothers Temple, Magick Potion and Night Fishing at the Hi-Dive venue.
Acid Mothers Temple are playing Hi-Dive on Saturday, October 10, with Magick Potion and Night Fishing opening. The full name is Acid Mothers Temple & The Melting Paraiso U.F.O., though they usually go by the shorter version, and the night is presented by the venue.
Acid Mothers Temple is a Japanese rock band that formed in 1995 around guitarist Kawabata Makoto. By 2004, the lineup had settled into a few core members and a revolving door of guest vocalists, and they've released music on their own Acid Mothers Temple family record label, which they started in 1998. Their sound covers a lot of ground: supercharged stomp-rock and motorik rhythm, doomy choral chanting, go-go, and atonal freakouts. If you've never seen them, that's a good summary of the range you might hear in a single set.
Magick Potion comes from the rural outskirts of Baltimore as a hard-hitting heavy rock trio. Dresden Boulden handles guitar and vocals, Triston Grove is on bass, and Jason Kendall is on drums. They channel the raw energy of late 1960s and early 1970s groups like Blue Cheer, The Amboy Dukes, and Budgie—heavy, loud, and rooted in that era of guitar-driven rock. Night Fishing rounds out the bill.
