Black metal concert featuring Abhoria, Velnias, Torn From Existence and Vexing at Hi-Dive in Denver.
Abhoria are playing Hi-Dive on Thursday, October 15, with Velnias, Torn From Existence and Vexing. It's a four-band bill, so you'll get a full night of extreme metal in one go.
If you haven't kept up with them, Abhoria is a US black metal band formed in 2018 by Trevor Portz, who led the progressive death/black metal outfit Ashen Horde. He started this one as a return to his black metal roots and pulled in players from the extreme metal underground: bassist Igor Panasewicz, who's been in NightWraith and Cephalic Carnage; drummer JS, formerly of Allegaeon; and vocalist Walthrax, who came from Catheter. They signed to Prosthetic Records and put out a self-titled debut in 2022, which Portz says was inspired by the '90s black metal that first drew him to the scene, though it kept some death metal flourishes in the mix.
Their second album, Depths, came out in 2024 with vocalist Ben Pitts on board. That record leaned even further into death metal and more complex arrangements than the first. Since then, they've toured the Midwest and the West Coast, including a direct-support slot for Norwegian black metal legend Abbath on his 2025 tour kickoff. They've since signed with the Swedish label Black Lion Records, who will release their next album in early 2027.
