The Rocky Horror Picture Show

The Rocky Horror Picture Show is coming to The Statler Hotel Grand Ballroom on Friday, October 16, for a special Halloween-season screening. It's not just the movie on the screen, though: Dallas shadow cast Los Bastardos will be performing the film live alongside it, bringing the characters, the choreography, and the show's outrageous energy off the screen and into the ballroom.

If you've never seen a shadow cast performance, here's the deal: a group of live performers acts out the movie in front of the screen, mirroring the action and the lines in real time. It turns a movie night into a live show, and Los Bastardos are local to Dallas, so this is a home-city cast taking on one of the most famous cult classics in cinema. The film itself had its U.S. premiere in 1975 and has remained in continuous limited release ever since—the longest-running theatrical release in film history. This particular showing also comes with a bit of a bittersweet note: Tim Curry, who played Dr. Frank-N-Furter, passed away in August at age 80.

The venue is the Grand Ballroom at The Statler, 1914 Commerce St. The room opened in January 1956 as The Statler Hilton, billed then as the first modern American hotel, complete with guestroom televisions, elevator music, and a rooftop heliport. It sat vacant for 16 years before a three-year, $255 million historic restoration brought it back in October 2017, and its stage has since hosted Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, and Michael Jackson. This is a Halloween-season showing, so it fits right into the spirit of the season.

Doors and the bar open at 8 PM, and the show starts at 9 PM. General admission is $32, VIP is $90, and tickets at the door go up to $35.
