A screening of the restored 1989 film Tetsuo: The Iron Man followed by a Behind the Screen performance by Pink Stiletto, Lunacy and MVTANT.
The Texas Theatre is screening a restored version of TETSUO: THE IRON MAN on Wednesday, October 14, with a live performance to follow. The film is the 1989 body-horror feature written and directed by Shin'ya Tsukamoto, starring Tomoroo Taguchi, Kei Fujiwara, and Nobu Kanaoka. It runs about 67 minutes, in Japanese with English subtitles, and the whole night is for over-18s only.
After the movie, the screen stays active for a "Behind the Screen" performance by three electronic projects. MVTANT is Joseph Anger's solo dark-electronic project, which he describes as drawing on body-horror cinema and ero-guro graphic novels. Pink Stiletto is a San Francisco analogue-synth project fronted by Valery Kvochkova that fuses 80s New Wave, Italo Disco, Post-Punk, and early EBM. Lunacy is a Pennsylvania darkwave project blending cinematic post-punk, industrial pulse, and spectral noise. The three perform together as a live accompaniment to the screen.
Tsukamoto's film is a body-horror manifesto fueled by techno-erotic adrenaline and wrought-iron perversion, and the live set follows that same line. The restored print puts the movie back on the big screen, and the performance keeps the energy going afterward. If you've seen TETSUO before, this is a chance to see it restored and paired with a live set; if you haven't, it's a good way to catch it for the first time.
