Skratch Bastid, a DJ, producer and turntablist, brings his rich and diverse sounds of Caribbean music to the modern hi-fi bar and listening room in Dallas.
Skratch Bastid plays Shyboy Hi Fi on Friday, October 16, for a night of Caribbean music. He's a DJ, producer, and turntablist who draws on Toronto's deep Caribbean culture and his own Trinidadian roots through his mother, and he's bringing those sounds to Dallas.
The night is presented by Shyboy Hi Fi, a modern hi-fi bar and listening room that follows the tradition of pure auditory experiences in a free, playful way. They take their equipment and world-class programming seriously while celebrating a wide range of genres, from Japanese Jazz to Detroit House. The space itself is informed by curving brutalist design and adaptive reuse, and it features works by progressive contemporary artists. In the main room, you'll find Untitled (2025) by Duccio Maria Gambi, flanked by two nine-foot-tall Devon Turnbull OJAS x NNNN speakers. In the blue listening roomโa painstakingly restored 1920s bank vaultโis Lachlan Turczan's Optical Resonance (2023), a cymatic sculpture that reacts organically to the room's sounds.
