A joyful Mexican Ballet Folklórico performance by Anita N. Martinez Ballet Folklórico that celebrates Mexican culture and remembrance for Día de Muertos.
Anita N. Martinez Ballet Folklórico brings Renacer to Moody Performance Hall on Tuesday, October 27, at 7 PM. It's a Día de Muertos celebration told through dance, built around the idea of honoring those who came before and the love that keeps their memory alive. The evening opens with remarks from Gral. Luis Rodríguez Bucio, Consul General of Mexico in Dallas.
Staged in the Mexican Ballet Folklórico tradition, the performance remembers loved ones who have passed while celebrating the memories, love, and traditions that continue to connect generations. The company brings together dancers of all ages in a vibrant showcase of Mexican culture and heritage, and the whole thing is framed as a joyful act of remembrance rather than one of mourning alone. The title, Renacer, means rebirth, which fits the way the holiday treats death as a part of life's cycle rather than an end.
The company is led by Artistic Director Maestro Juan José López Rodríguez, and the production draws on the regional dances and costumes that define the folklórico style. Seeing dancers of all ages on stage together is one of the more tangible ways the show works through its theme of generations staying connected.
