Graduation night of an eight-week introductory stand-up course taught by Parker Slaven, featuring budding comics performing their sets.
Parker Slaven is hosting his Intro to Stand-Up grad show at the Dallas Comedy Club on Sunday, October 11. It's the graduation night for an eight-week introductory stand-up course he taught at the club, so the stage belongs to the students rather than the usual pros.
Over the course of those two months, a group of budding comics worked through the basics of writing and polishing their first sets. This is the night they actually get to perform them in front of a live audience. Since they've been writing and refining their material throughout the class, you're seeing the result of eight weeks of work rather than a first-draft open mic set. It's a string of new comics taking their first real swings, and the whole thing is built around that transition from the classroom to the stage.

The show runs in the Mainstage Theater at the Dallas Comedy Club, 3036 Elm Street in Dallas. Doors open at 2:45 PM, and the show starts at 3:00 PM, so it's an afternoon thing rather than a late-night one. Tickets are $18.40, and the room is 18 and up.
