A competitive open mic night for stand-up comics in Dallas, with sets capped at five minutes and a full bar available.
The Improv Jam is back at the Dallas Comedy Club on Wednesday, October 14, and it's a bit different from your usual comedy night. This is the club's Wednesday mic, billed as the city's most popular open mic and the number one open mic in Dallas and Fort Worth. It takes place on the main stage—the same one where the headliner comics perform—so you're seeing the same room the pros use. The night is described as competitive and high-stakes, aimed at comics serious about stand-up, with a full bar and a patio on hand. The format is an open mic with sets capped at five minutes. Thirty spots are filled by an advanced lottery sign-up that runs from Thursday through Tuesday, and sixteen standby spots are handed out on the Wednesday night itself starting at 7:15 PM. If you're looking for something a bit more laid-back, the club also runs a Sunday mic at 4:30 PM, which is more relaxed and supportive—better suited to new comics and those testing out new material.
Beyond the stand-up, there's a theatrical side to the night. The Improv Jam is also a session of improvisational theater for adults, and the club describes it as an invitation to 'play make-believe,' with no experience necessary. If you decide to take part, you'll get $25 off your first Level 1 Improv Class. The room is 18 and up.
