A free, unscripted improvised comedy show where audience suggestions drive every scene, followed by an open mic session.
Improv Happy Hour is back at the Dallas Comedy Club this Wednesday, October 14. It's a free, totally unscripted show in the Club Theater, and it's one of those Deep Ellum nights where the audience calls the shots. Every scene is built on your suggestions, so every single night is both a world premiere and a closingโonce the show is over, those specific scenes are gone for good.
The night serves as a stage for the club's Improv Club Teams, which is how the Dallas Comedy Club gives its Training Center alumni more time on stage and a path from hobbyist to professional. To get a spot, students have to complete at least three improv classes at the club and then audition for a team, where they work under a professional improv coach. You'll see two very different styles on the same bill: Salted Rim plays a short-form style not unlike Whose Line Is It Anyway, while Crimetime stages a long-form, audience-suggested one-act play. Between the two, you get a good look at how different improv can be from one team to the next.
If you're in the mood to keep going after the show, the night doesn't end there. Improv Happy Hour is followed by The Improv Jam, a casual open-mic session where improvisers of all skill levels gather to play unscripted scenes and games together for two or three hours. It's a more low-key, community-focused way to spend the rest of your evening if you're into the scene.
