Dallas Black Dance Theatre presents Genesis, a showcase of iconic works celebrating Fifty Years in Motion.
Dallas Black Dance Theatre brings Genesis to the Dee & Charles Wyly Theatre on Friday, November 6 and Saturday, November 7, with both performances starting at 7:30 PM. The show is a retrospective that goes back to the works that laid the foundation for the company, and it's part of a larger celebration of their fifty years in motion.
The program brings together four pieces from different decades. There's ...And Now Marvin by Darryl B. Sneed, first performed in 1995, and A Rag, A Bone, and A Hank of Hair by Talley Beatty from 1991. Joining them are Camouflage by Ben Stevenson, O.B.E., from 1983, and Nascimiento by David Parsons, from 1990. Put together, they span the company's early years and the choreographers who helped shape its voice.
That history is exactly what Genesis is looking at. The company started in Dallas fifty years ago as a founder's dream and has grown step by step, movement by movement, generation by generation. This retrospective is billed as a Director's Choice, and it returns to the iconic works that set the stage for everything that followed.

It's one part of a wider anniversary season. Later, on Saturday, February 13, 2027, there's a 50th Anniversary Gala, and INHERITANCE is another program in the season, one where a new generation of dancers embody the works that established the company in the contemporary landscape. If you can't make it in person, a streaming-on-demand version of Genesis will be available from Saturday, November 7 through Monday, November 9. The live shows are at the Wyly, 2400 Flora Street, Dallas, TX 75201, on Friday, November 6 and Saturday, November 7, both at 7:30 PM.
