Xiu Xiu present Eraserhead, a live concert with film and full-length album inspired by David Lynch's Eraserhead, using field recordings and experimental sound.
Xiu Xiu are bringing Eraserhead to The Texas Theatre on Saturday, October 10, for a live concert with film and a full-length album inspired by David Lynch's Eraserhead. The duo on stage is Angela Seo and Jamie Stewart.
This is a new project, and it comes from a familiar place. Back in 2016, with the blessing of David Lynch and composer Angelo Badalamenti, Xiu Xiu released and toured Plays the Music of Twin Peaks, which became surprisingly successful before they put it to rest in 2018. After Lynch's death, requests to revive that interpretation poured in, but the band chose to go deeper instead. Eraserhead Xiu Xiu is the result: a live concert with accompanying film and a full-length album that uses field recordings, concert-specific homemade instruments, organ, modular synths, vocals, flashlights, electrical interference and elements of musique concrète to map the bizarre emotionality and unsettled moonscape of Lynch's film. The original film's sound design and score by Alan Splet and Lynch guide the band's expanded interpretation.
The album is a sound-collage and experimentation masterpiece, with tracks like "Tetra" and "Sleep Synth" and a closing rendition of Peter Ivers' "In Heaven."
