Concert by Chelsea Wolfe on her THE DARK World Tour, with support from Jonathan Hultén, at The Texas Theatre.
Chelsea Wolfe brings her THE DARK World Tour to The Texas Theatre on Friday, October 16, with Jonathan Hultén opening. It's a stop on a tour that carries her latest work across the map, and the set will draw from a career that's spent over a decade shifting between doom metal, folk, industrial, electronic music, and spectral balladry. If you've followed her for a while, you know she doesn't stick to one sound for long.
That restlessness is a good way to get a handle on her discography. It starts with the lo-fi The Grime and the Glow (2010), moves into the electrified dirges of Apokalypsis (2011) and Hiss Spun (2017), turns acoustic on Birth of Violence (2019), and goes electronic with Abyss (2015). She's worked with Chino Moreno of Deftones, Xiu Xiu, and Converge; her music has appeared in Game of Thrones; and she co-wrote the score for the A24 horror film X with Tyler Bates. She even played the Ann Demeulemeester show at Paris Fashion Week last year. It's a wide reach for one artist, but the common thread is a focus on transformation, spirituality, grief, longing, and the unseen forces that shape our lives.
This tour comes at a particular moment for her. New songs and GHOSTS are arriving in close succession, and she describes this as opening a new chapter that feels unmistakably her own. The show will be built around that new material, though the set will likely pull from the older records too. Jonathan Hultén handles the support, so the night starts well before Wolfe takes the stage.
