Concert by Blue Capricorn, the solo project of Rodrigo Caraballo-Marin, at Dada Dallas.
Blue Capricorn plays Dada Dallas on Friday, October 23, with Bayonne on the bill as well. It's a double bill at the Elm Street spot, so you've got two acts to work through in one night.
Blue Capricorn is the solo project of Rodrigo Caraballo-Marin, a multi-instrumentalist based right here in Dallas. The name is a bit of a misnomer if you're expecting a full band—it's just him behind the music. His work pulls from a wide spread of sounds: dream pop, electronica, acid jazz, indie, and lofi. That's a lot of ground to cover, and it's exactly why the project can shift gears so easily. One track might lean into the hazy, washed-out textures of dream pop, while the next pulls in the syncopated rhythms of acid jazz or the stripped-back, home-recorded feel of lofi. It's the kind of music that doesn't stay in one lane for long.
Having a multi-instrumentalist at the helm is what makes that possible. Caraballo-Marin handles the different roles himself, so the shift from an electronic beat to a jazzier groove comes from the same set of hands. When you see the project live, that's what's on display: one person moving across those different styles in a single set. With Bayonne sharing the bill, the night puts two different takes on the same stage.
