Evening with portraitist Devon Rodriguez, whose work is featured in the memoir Work in Progress, as part of the DMA's Arts & Letters Live series.
Devon Rodriguez is coming to the Dallas Museum of Art on Thursday, October 15, as part of the Arts & Letters Live series. It's an evening with the portraitist, whose work is featured in the memoir Work in Progress.
If you've come across his work online, you probably know the format: photorealistic subway sketches paired with person-on-the-street interviews that celebrate everyday people. He's a self-made New York City portraitist, and during the pandemic he started sharing those pieces in bite-sized TikTok videos that went viral, making him the most-followed visual artist on the platform. The Arts & Letters Live series is the DMA's literary and performing arts program, one of the few nationally recognized literary series at a major art museum. It pairs award-winning authors with new and emerging voices and blends literature with visual arts, dance, music, and film, giving audiences a chance to meet the authors, hear about their creative process, and get a book signed.
The series is supported by the Annual Season Supporters, the Kay Cattarulla Endowment for the Literary and Performing Arts, and the McGee Foundation Arts & Letters Live Endowment Fund at the DMA. Rodriguez's work fits right into that intersection of visual art and storytelling the series is built around.
