Bruce Wood Dance Dallas opens its 17th season with a whimsical triple-bill of dance, featuring the Dallas premiere of Joy Bollinger's 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland'.
Bruce Wood Dance Dallas opens its 17th season at Moody Performance Hall on Friday, November 13, with a triple bill of dance that's built for all ages. The evening brings together three distinct pieces: Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, choreographed by Joy Bollinger; HĂ€nsel und Gretel, a world premiere by Noelle Kayser; and Schmetterling, by Bruce Wood himself.
Alice's Adventures in Wonderland is the Dallas premiere of Bollinger's piece, which first went out in 2025 to critical acclaim. Scott Cantrell of The Dallas Morning News called the choreography "unflaggingly imaginative... delightful from start to finish." It was commissioned in September 2025 by the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra with Robert Spano as Music Director, and it features costumes by Tommy Bourgeois and digital storytelling by Courtney Ware. Beside it, HĂ€nsel und Gretel draws on the Brothers Grimm fairytale, and Schmetterlingâwhich first premiered in 2004âis set to Mozart's piano concertos.
This season is the company's first under newly appointed Artistic Director Melissa M. Young and Resident Choreographer and Répétiteur Joy Bollinger. It also marks two institutional milestones: the company's first-ever grant from The Shubert Foundation and its renewed appointment to the Texas Commission on the Arts Texas Touring Roster for 2026-2028.
