Evening of spoken word and live music with Andrea Gibson's filmed performance 'Love Letter from the Afterlife', The Goosebumps Orchestra and poet Megan Falley.
Andrea Gibson's Love Letter from the Afterlife comes to KEMBA Live! on Saturday, November 7, as part of a tour that brings a filmed performance to life on stage. The evening centers on the film itself, which captures Gibson's final live performance, recorded at Denver's Paramount Theatre in 2024. It was produced by the same team behind the Oscar-nominated documentary Come See Me in the Good Light.
What makes this more than just a screening is the live element: The Goosebumps Orchestra performs Blake Neely's original score in the room, playing along with the filmed performance throughout the night. Guest artists also appear on stage, including poet Megan Falley, who is Gibson's wife. Between the film and the music, Falley shares intimate stories of their relationship and the connections the guest artists had with Andrea's life.
For those who might not be familiar, Andrea Gibson (they/them/their) is one of the most influential spoken-word artists of our time. Their poems center on LGBTQ issues, gender, feminism, mental health, and gun reform. They won the first Women's World Poetry Slam and have published six full-length collections, including You Better Be Lightning (Button Poetry, 2021). They've also released seven full-length albums and have been featured on the BBC, Air America, C-SPAN, and The Good Life Project. Falley, who performed at Red Rocks, describes the tour as making those who never met Andrea feel that "Andrea is still speaking, and speaking directly to you."
