A lantern-guided living history and paranormal tour exploring Charlotte's true crime and tragic past at Historic Elmwood Cemetery, with adult subject matter and an 18+ paranormal experience.
Voices From The Past After Dark returns to Historic Elmwood Cemetery on October 23 and 24, 2026. It's the third edition of the event, which takes place on the 173-year-old grounds at 246 North Cedar Street in Charlotte. Rather than a typical haunted house or Halloween attraction, it's a lantern-guided living history experience. Costumed storytellers move through the cemetery, turning the graves into a stage where Charlotte's past murders, tragedies, cold crime cases and long-buried secrets are brought back to life.
Creative program director Lynn Mintzer describes the tours as "disclosures from beyond the grave," and they don't shy away from the city's darker chapters. The stories deal in true crime and adult subject matter—murder, adultery and suicide—so this isn't a family-friendly walk. If you're looking for something more active, the Charlotte Area Paranormal Society joins in with digital audio equipment, spectrum photography and thermal imaging for anyone wanting to contact a restless soul. That part of the night is strictly 18+.
